Your website's ranking on Google is the best source of visibility online. You know it and you have worked a lot on the SEO content to optimize your website for Google. But you noticed that your website’s ranking is not so good on search engines? In this blog post, we give you 4 things to do to improve your website's ranking (SEO) on Google.
Here's what we'll look at in this blog post:
How to reduce your page load time
Get a better user experience on mobile
Tips for keyword optimization and web page tagging
Improve the netlinking on your website
1. Reduce the loading time of your web pages
Google penalizes sites that are too slow. If the page loading speed exceeds 3 seconds, you lose half of the users who came on your page. And the bounce rate is an important parameter of SEO: the more users stay on your pages and consume your web content, the better!
If you notice that your website takes too long to display, you must reduce the loading time of your web pages. Their contents are much too heavy! Here are the steps to follow:
check the loading speed of your website pages with tools like PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix.
Systematically compress all your photos, visuals and videos by optimizing them for the Web. You will reduce the file size while keeping the quality of the images. And you can do it easily with free online image compression tools like Compressor.io or TinyPNG.
Re-import optimized content on your website, taking care to rename it and remove old content to lighten the site.
2. Improve the user experience on mobile
Today, everything gets done from our mobile phones. The phone has become our main communication media! More than 70% of web traffic comes from mobile users (tablets, smartphones, connected watches, Smart TV...). Google has therefore necessarily taken this into account in its latest updates, to promote responsive websites. That is to say that the user experience must be responsive, adapted to a display on all screen sizes, and particularly on smartphones.
Most CMS (Wordpress, Wix, Shopify, Prestashop ...), include the setting of responsive design pages. Click on the small phone icon in the back office of your website, and display the user experience on mobile. Make sure your website is perfectly adapted to this use.
3. Use your strategic keywords in the titles
In order for your site to get more visibility on Google, it must correspond to keywords that people type a search in the Google bar. So you need to make sure that your site is properly indexed by Google on specific keywords. To do this, you need to use your strategic keywords in the HTML tags. The tags of your web pages are H1 titles, H2 subtitles, H3 sub-subtitles, SEO titles, meta description... These elements constitute a map for Google's robots. But also for your readers: they are highlighted contents, which help to memorize the information.
Make sure that these main tags contain the main keywords and keyword variants (long tail) corresponding to the searches of Internet users in your field of activity. For example, for the Studio, we have :
optimized our main pages on the main keywords such as "graphic design" "content writing" "digital communication" "logo" "website" and inserted these keywords in H1
then, we declined the H2 from these keywords using long tail keywords such as "graphic design and branding" "SEO content writing" "digital communication on social networks" "logo and visual identity" "website for entrepreneurs"...
We have always been able to keep our high ranking in the search engine thanks to this winning keyword strategy on Google. So test it for yourself :)
4. Create a powerful netlinking
To enrich the browsing experience and indicate to Google that you publish relevant and quality content, there is a magic recipe: netlinking. It consists in building links inside (internal linking) and outside (external linking) your site.
To set up your website's internal linking, you will create more internal links between the pages of your site. Integrate URLs or click-though buttons from one page to another related to their main theme of your website. The pages then form an optimized "web" of your website.
The external linking of your site refers to the number of backlinks and the authority of your web pages. The more external links you have pointing to your website (but they must come from trusted sites related to your expertise), the more Google will consider that your site is an authority in its niche and it will move it up in the search results. This must be done in a natural way and managed over time for better ranking results.
As you can see, search engines use several criteria to rank websites. To improve your ranking, you must ensure that all these criteria are respected! We have just seen the most important ones: the loading speed of your site, the quality of the content published on your site, the relevance between the pages of your site and the keywords you want to target and the number of backlinks and the authority of these pages. Through these 4 actions, you know how to make your site rank better on Google.
